Your Journey

“Your children are not your children. They are sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you. And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.”- Khalil Gibran

Here is a summary of the steps you will be following in your journey towards parenthood. The time taken during each step is also mentioned. The path to having a baby might be arduous but rewarding indeed.

IVF JOURNEY

Enquiry and Appointment

It takes about a week or so from the first contact to seeing the doctor. Depending on the case load, the waiting time fluctuates so it would be wise to schedule the appointment as soon as you can.

Initial Consultation and Ultrasound Scan

The first consultation will include an elaborate and meticulous history talk of both of you, including personal, family, menstrual, fertility and medical history. If you had previously done testing and/or treatment at other Fertility centres, you may carry them so that we can have a look and avoid repeating the same tests. After getting a thorough outlook on your particular case, a treatment strategy will be planned that best suits your condition. Further investigations are recommended only if absolutely important. An Ultrasound scan will also be done during the first consultation itself, and repeated if necessary. Depending on the tests prescribed and review visits, this process will take 1-2 weeks.

Follow-up and Consultation with our chief Embryologist

After consulting Dr. Dalal, the best infertility specialist doctor in Delhi, a Fertility Nurse will be in touch with you and will explain all the procedures in detail, discuss the cost of IVF Treatment in Delhi and have all your consent forms signed. The fertility nurse or Dr. Dalal himself would then assist you in booking the treatment dates and also prescribing necessary medications.

The most important consultation will be with our chief embryologist Dr. Akanksha Mishra. Having more than two decades of experience and being an Oxford University post-graduate, she is the person who’d be making your embryos in the lab and hence, the most important person for you to meet. Not only she or her team will clear any further doubts but also assist you in gaining further information and explaining the exact procedures in detail. These procedures include facilities like PGS, ERA, IMSI, so on and so forth.

Your treatment begins

  • At Janini IVF, we usually select the “Antagonist” protocol that is a preferred, patient-friendly and convenient protocol for Ovarian Stimulation. In most cases, the injections would be started from the 2nd day of your menses.
  • Rarely we employ the long protocol or luteal phase protocol in which we would explain you in detail how to go about it.
  • Once the stimulation starts, we will need you to come to the clinic about 3-4 times till oocyte pick-up (egg retrieval). Usually, the injections are given daily for 10-12 Days but this can range from 9-15 days.

Egg retrieval / IVF or ICSI day

  • After follicle size reaches 18-20 mm, we give a final trigger injection which is to be taken at night time.
  • About 36 hours after trigger injection, we have the Egg collection or Oocyte pick-up procedure.
  • Short anaesthesia would be given to you and you will not feel any pain.
  • OPU should not take more than 20-30 minutes
  • After a brief period of rest in the recovery, you will be discharged same day evening.
  • ICSI or insemination of the eggs and sperms will happen a few hours after egg retrieval.

Embryo Transfer

  • At Janini IVF, you will be given complete information about the number, grade and quality of embryos formed.
  • A printed sheet will also be provided depicting the same information with pictures of embryos.
  • At the best IVF Centre of Delhi - Janini IVF, we usually pursue a practice of “Segmented IVF” to enhance the success rates.
  • In this procedure, the embryos made in a fresh cycle are all frozen.
  • Pills are given to you so that you can get proper menses in about a couple of weeks.
  • After resting the Endometrium, we again call you in 1 month for Frozen embryo transfer.
  • Depending on the case situation, we can also do a fresh cycle transfer and freeze the remaining embryos.

Pregnancy blood test or Urine Pregnancy test

2 weeks after embryo transfer, a blood test (called beta-HCG) will be done to confirm pregnancy. Please continue all medications as prescribed. Do not stop them until and unless you are told to do so.

Pregnancy scan

After about a month of the positive blood test, we will do a scan to see the health of the pregnancy as well as rule out ectopic pregnancy. Whether the pregnancy is singleton or multiple (eg twins) will also be known in this scan.
