Since with embryo donation the entire embryo is from outer source it is understandable that the couples who go for this option are those who have a problem with both egg and sperm. So Embryo Donation is suited for

• Couples where the husband has Non-Obstructive Azoospermia with no chance whatsoever of harvesting sperms with even micro-TESE (for example Y chromosomal micro deletion AZF a) AND also the woman has poor ovarian reserve / menopausal
• Couples who have had multiple previous treatment failures with even egg donation (very rare)
• Couples in whom there is a high risk of passage of a genetic hereditary condition to the offspring

Who can become an Embryo donor?

Since at Janini IVF, the best surrogacy centre in Delhi NCR, we have exceptionally high success rates with IVF/ICSI treatment, we get a lot of requests from couples who’ve already had babies with us to donate their surplus (and therefore unwanted) embryos. They have this good samaritan feeling of donating their embryos so that other couples too, like them, become proud parents and raise a family. Unfortunately, we don’t follow this practice and we don’t give away their embryos for donation as Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) guidelines do not have a clear policy on the same. Since surplus embryo donation to other couples is a controversial practice, we don’t indulge in the same. For every couple that avails embryo donation with us, we recruit both anonymous egg donor and anonymous sperm donor (after thorough medical evaluation and blood tests) to create donor embryos. We then transfer these embryos created from donor eggs and sperms. That way we can also ensure better matching of the donors’ profile with yours and your husband’s.

What is the process of Embryo Donation treatment?

• The process of Embryo Donation is pretty much similar to that of Egg donation. The recipient patient receives oral pills of Estrogen from 2nd day of menses to prepare the endometrial lining.
• On the 9th/10th day an Ultrasound is done to check for Endometrial thickness and Doppler parameters to assess endometrial receptivity.
• 8-9 mm is considered optimal thickness for endometrium but exceptions exist and we at Janini IVF are the best judge to decide whether the endometrium is worth transferring embryos in the same cycle or deferring/postponing treatment if the endometrium is thin.
• For women who have already crossed menopause and do not have any periods of their own, we will have to give 3 to 6 months of hormone treatment to start your periods. After this period when the endometrium becomes optimal only then we would be able to transfer the embryos.

How is embryo donation different from adopting a baby?

• With embryo donation treatment, you won’t have to go through the rigorous legal and bureaucratic hurdles of adopting a baby. Embryo donation IVF treatment is smooth, hassle free and quick.
• Embryo adoption or Embryo donation allows you as a couple to experience the nine months of pregnancy and develop feelings for the growing baby. This bonding is not possible in baby adoption.
• You won’t have to receive injections that an ordinary IVF patient has to take because we are not growing your eggs.
• In India, the adoption process gives more preference to young couples. If you’ve crossed a certain age then adoption will be tough for you.
